The Cloth a Child Initiative:

Empowering Education, One Uniform at a Time.

“Imagine a child standing at the school gates, too ashamed to enter or trying to build up morale to face his peers because their clothes are torn and tattered.”
For underprivileged children, this is a daily reality. Lack of proper clothing is not just a material issue, it is a barrier to education, dignity, and opportunity.
The ATRED Foundation **Cloth a Child Initiative** is a transformative program designed to provide school uniforms and essential clothing to 100,000 children in rural communities across Nigeria.
By addressing this basic yet critical need, we empower children to attend school with confidence, self-esteem, and a sense of belonging. Aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 1, SDG 4 – Quality Education, and SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities), this initiative tackles poverty, promotes inclusive education, and reduces inequalities—one uniform at a time.

Why This Matters

– Education is a right, but dignity is a necessity- Without proper clothing, children face stigma, bullying, and exclusion, which often leads to absenteeism and dropout.
– School uniforms are more than fabric- They symbolize equality, foster students’ unity, and create a sense of belonging.
– Your support can break the cycle of poverty- By ensuring children stay in school, we are not just clothing them- we are equipping them with the tools to build a brighter future.

Our Objectives

1. Provide Access to Basic Clothing: Ensure every child has the uniforms and clothing they need to attend school.
2. Restore Dignity and Confidence: Help children feel included, boosting their self-esteem and emotional well-being.
3. Promote Inclusive Education: Remove socio-economic barriers to learning, ensuring no child is left behind.
4. Build a Scalable Model: Create a sustainable program that can be expanded to reach more children in need.
Our Approach: Evidence-Based and Community-Driven
1. Needs Assessment: We start by listening. Through focus groups, surveys, and interviews with parents, teachers, and community leaders, we identify the children who need our help most. This ensures our resources are targeted and impactful.
2. Evidence-Based Design: Our program is rooted in research showing that school uniforms improve attendance, academic performance, and emotional well-being. We design uniforms that are durable, culturally appropriate, and made from sustainable materials.
3. Pilot Testing: We’re launching a pilot program at LEA Primary School Bwari area council, Abuja FCT, Nigeria, providing uniforms to 100 children out of 330 pupils. This initial phase will help us refine our approach, ensuring the program is effective and scalable.
4. Feedback and Adaptation: We believe in continuous improvement. Regular feedback from students, parents, and teachers will guide adjustments to distribution methods, and program delivery.
5. Monitoring and Evaluation: We measure success through these key performance indicators (KPIs)
– Increased school attendance rates.
– Improved student confidence and sense of belonging.
– Number of uniforms distributed vs. Target numbers for the initiative.
Our final evaluation will assess the program’s long-term impact, ensuring it delivers real, measurable change.

Scalability and Sustainability

The Cloth a Child Initiative is targeted to reach 100,000 children in rural Nigeria and with more partnership with local suppliers, businesses, government bodies, Private sector and Donor organizations create a sustainable model to reach other rural communities across Africa.
Our goal is to create a model that can be replicated in other communities, empowering even more children to pursue their education with dignity.
